This course includes the study of functions, trigonometry, and geometry, preparing students for advanced studies in STEM-related courses. An emphasis is placed on building conceptual understandings, reasoning mathematically, and modeling with mathematics. This is accomplished using inquiry, real-world contexts, and explorations with technology.
ONE-CREDIT MIDDLE SCHOOL COURSE
This middle school course will provide students with a deep understanding and mastery of the objectives that will prepare them for algebra. It is aligned to Common Core State Standards, and is based on best practices in the teaching of mathematics and the disciplines of STEM learning. Students will develop 21st century skills as they master ratios and proportional relationships; the number system; and number visualization. The course is highly engaging while being easy for teachers to customize and manage.

Math 7 builds on material learned in earlier grades, including fractions, decimals, and percentages and introduces students to concepts they will continue to use throughout their study of mathematics. Among these are surface area, volume, and probability. Real-world applications facilitate understanding, and students are provided multiple opportunities to master these skills through practice problems within lessons, homework drills, and graded assignments.
ONE-CREDIT MIDDLE SCHOOL COURSE
This course is designed to enable all students at the middle school level to develop a deep understanding of math objectives and leaves students ready for algebra. The first semester covers objectives in transformations, linear equations, systems of equations, and functions. The second semester focuses on scientific notation, roots, the Pythagorean Theorem and volume, and statistics and probability. The course is based on the Common Core State Standards Initiative and on a modern understanding of student learning in mathematics.

Geometry offers a rich and engaging subject to explore with students! Students will initially focus on plane Euclidean geometry, which allows for both synthetic and analytical approaches, and enables students to develop their logical reasoning skills. Then, exploring congruence, similarity, and symmetry through geometric transformations and exploring and applying theorems about triangles and quadrilaterals will help students develop their problem-solving abilities. While trigonometry opens doors to real-world applications and deeper mathematical understanding, circle geometry provides a robust theoretical environment to hone problem-solving and reasoning skills even further.

Algebra 2 continues students’ mathematical journey, begun in Algebra 1, of combining the concrete world of numbers into the sometimes abstract world of functions and other topics. The course thoroughly prepares students for the oncoming rigor of Pre-Calculus and beyond, yet does so in a manner that is compelling and rewarding, and fosters an appreciation for the real-life applications of each topic explored, as well as for math itself.

Financial Mathematics is designed to instruct students in algebraic thinking while also preparing them to navigate a number of financial applications. Students will explore how algebraic knowledge is connected to many financial situations, including investing, using credit, paying taxes, and shopping for insurance. In studying these topics, students will learn about the linear, exponential, and quadratic relationships that apply to financial applications. In addition, the course will help prepare students to tackle the wide variety of financial decisions they will face in life, from setting up their first budget to planning for retirement.

English 6 analyzes informational texts, including biographies, primary documents, instructional documents, film reviews, and persuasive letters. Reading selections demonstrate concepts such as explicit and implicit information, central ideas and key details, and claims and arguments. Students also read and analyze literary texts from a number of genres, including a novel, excerpts from novels, short stories, poems, and plays. The course’s reading selections demonstrate ways to understand characters, plot, explicit and implicit information, theme, poetic techniques, and figurative language, among other ideas and concepts.

English 7 explores informational texts, including biographies, personal accounts of events, presidential speeches, and persuasive letters. Readings include texts about historical figures used to demonstrate concepts such as explicit and implicit information, central ideas and key details, and claims and arguments. These texts demonstrate ways to understand explicit and implicit information, theme, characters, plot, poetic and dramatic techniques, and figurative language, among other ideas and concepts. While reading novels, short stories, poems, and plays in this course, students identify central ideas and themes; make inferences; analyze word choice; identify figurative, connotative, and sensory language; and compare and contrast different text mediums. In addition, they learn about basics in grammar, usage, and punctuation, including correct spelling, misplaced and dangling modifiers, and precise and concise language. Lastly, students learn the elements of narrative writing so that they can plan, create, write, revise, and edit their own personal narrative. Students also learn about different forms of poetry and their characteristics.
